1. What separates SpotLite GPS Pet Locator from other pet protection services and
GPS pet tracking devices?
Securus is the only company to provide GPS real-time pet tracking and 24/7/365 dedicated
recovery service through a partnership with American Kennel Club Companion Animal
Recovery (AKC CAR).
SpotLite uses the latest communication and tracking technologies to quickly and
reliably monitor and instantly notify owners of their dog’s whereabouts.
2. What are SpotLite’s key differentiators?

microchips), or just tracking capabilities.
- Dedicated 24/7 recovery service.
- Exclusive AKC CAR collar tag with unique ID number that includes Lifetime Enrollment
in AKC CAR Recovery Service.
- Device attaches to a dog’s current collar (no special collar or additional accessory
needed).
- Device is compact, water-resistant and one of the smallest available on the market.
- Pet owners can view turn-by-turn directions online to retrieve their lost dog.
- The latest Google Map technologies providing ultimate convenience to pet owners
when tracking and locating their dogs.
- Customizable and multi-layer SafeSpots – You can easily customize multiple areas
where you consider your dog to be safe. Any time your dog goes outside any of those
areas, you will be alerted via text and/or email.
- Timely alerts via cell phone and/or e-mail.
- Rescue button located directly on the collar to connect lost dog with recovery team
and owner.
3. How does SpotLite work?
Simply attach SpotLite to your dog’s collar, visit www.SpotLightGPS.com, set your SafeSpots
to be what you consider to be areas where your dog is safe, select other items you
want to be alerted about, and select your preferences for being contacted should
your dog leave home unattended. Then, rest easy knowing your dog is protected.
Spotlite uses A-GPS technology to allow dog owners to track and monitor their dog's
location from their cell phones and/or email if their dog has left a designated
SafeSpot.
You can view driving directions to your pet online or with your smart phone.
If a compassionate passerby finds your dog, there is a rescue button on the GPS
pet locator that connects your lost dog with you and the AKC CAR Recovery Team.
SpotLite is feature rich, yet simple to use:
- Recovery button to electronically connect a lost pet with AKC CAR Team and his/her
owner.
- On demand, fast and accurate tracking.
- Ability to use any cell phone and computer to set up and use SpotLite.
- Location history is saved for future reference.
4. What is a SafeSpot?
The SafeSpot is the primary area the owner identifies as being "home" for their
dog.
There is also a secondary SafeSpot that you can set up to circle the primary (home)
SafeSpot. This allows you to have another layer of protection. For instance, you
can set up your secondary SafeSpot to be in your neighborhood.
In addition to the primary and secondary SafeSpots, you can set up multiple other
SafeSpots for any location you desire, like around your vacation home or the local
park. You can set up to 10 SafeSpots.
5. What happens if my dog leaves a SafeSpot?
Once a dog leaves a SafeSpot, SpotLite is automatically activated.
It then sends the pet’s owner a text message (or email, or both if preferred) when
the dog leaves the designated SafeSpot.
Once alerted that the dog has left a SafeSpot, owners are then able to track their
dogs in real-time on their mobile phones or through our website at www.SpotLightGPS.com.
6. Do alerts only come via text?
No, pet owners also have the option of receiving email alerts/updates on the location
of their dog. You can choose between text or email notifications, or both.
7. Why is Securus working with AKC CAR? How did they join forces?
Securus teamed with the American Kennel Club Companion Animal Recovery (AKC CAR)
team to officially launch the SpotLite pet tracking device to reduce the startling
number of lost dogs by arming owners with advanced technology and continuous recovery
assistance. The functionality of SpotLite paired with the assistance of the Recovery
Team ensures that dogs remain safely at home or are quickly returned, should they
escape.
In addition, Securus and AKC CAR have similar missions in that both strive to reduce
the number of lost pets each year.
Securus offers the only GPS Pet Locator product that offers a 24/7/365 recovery
service thanks to our partnership with AKC CAR. Through our partnership, there is
always someone there to watch out and help if your dog is missing. Also, the professional
Recovery Coordinators at AKC CAR are always available via telephone when talking
to a real, live person gives you the greatest level of comfort.
8. Is AKC CAR affiliated with the American Kennel Club?
It is. AKC CAR is a wholly owned subsidiary of AKC, which was founded in 1884 and
is the largest purebred dog registry in the world.
AKC CAR has been in business since 1995 and has over 4 million pets enrolled in
its database. To date, it has already recovered over 350,000 pets.
In the recovery market there are a few companies that offer 24/7 recovery service
and chipping services, but AKC CAR is the largest nonprofit in the market.
9. What is unique about the SpotLite and AKC CAR offering?
We are focused on helping dog owners to always be connected to their dogs. We have
insisted on SpotLite features that allow the dog owner to relax in the knowledge
that their dogs are safe at home. If that horrific time does come that your dog
is lost, you do not have to worry because SpotLite has the following features to
help:
- Long-lasting rechargeable battery.
- SpotLite pet tracking device is compact, water resistant, durable and lightweight.
- Ability to use standard cell phones and computers; no additional device required
to carry.
- Offers a layered protection recovery solution with the assistance of AKC CAR’s call
center. We are combining the best technology with the best recovery team to provide
multiple layers of protection.
- Lifetime Enrollment in AKC CAR’s Recovery Service.
10. How does the Lifetime Enrollment in AKC CAR’s Recovery Service work?
AKC CAR maintains a database of over 4 million pets. Enrolling your dog’s unique
SpotLite identification number on the included collar tag in AKC CAR’s Recovery
Service provides another opportunity to identify and bring your pet home. If someone
finds your dog, the hotline on the tag (888-DOG-LOC8) gives 24/7 access to an AKC
CAR Recovery Team Spotter who will verify your pet’s identity and location and immediately
contact you and/or your alternate contact(s) to set up a reunion. Enrollment in
this service is for the lifetime of your pet.
11. What happens if someone finds my lost dog?
If your lost dog is found, a person can simply press the "Rescue" button on the
locator and you will instantly receive a text that your dog has been found. As part
of the text, you will receive the location of your dog and an AKC CAR Spotter will
be notified to help you plot your dog’s location on a map.
12. Do dog owners need this kind of device/service for their dogs?
10 million pets went missing in 2008; only 1.8 million were reunited with their
owners.
4.5 million pets were euthanized before they could be placed back with their owners
or in new homes.
SpotLite is the natural next step in providing recovery services for our pets. Both
give you total peace of mind in knowing that your dog is always being monitored,
no matter where you are.
13. What is A-GPS Technology?
A-GPS stands for Assisted Global Positioning System. It enhances the performance
of a basic GPS’s location time and accuracy.
Compared with regular GPS systems, A-GPS provides much faster positioning even when
GPS signal conditions are weak.
14. How accurate is A-GPS?
A-GPS can locate a moving object within 5 yards in most cases, depending on the
signal strength from satellites and cell towers.
15. Why A-GPS rather than standard GPS?
A-GPS takes less power (saving battery life) and time to acquire satellite and cell
tower signals and finds your pet quicker.
Under stand-alone GPS operation, a GPS receiver typically needs more than 30 seconds
to receive the satellite position data and other satellite information required
to compute a position. In weak signal areas such as urban canyons, building interiors
or locations surrounded by tall trees, where the receiver has limited or no direct
access to the open sky, determining a positioning can take much longer. A-GPS will
shorten the time to as little as 1 second.
16. Is there a difference between a GPS device and a microchip?
There is. Microchips have to be surgically implanted and rely on radio frequency.
GPS systems work off of global positioning technology. Microchips are a great way
to uniquely identify your dog. If a dog is found, then the vet or shelter can scan
the dog and identify its owners.
We recommend that you use both microchipping and SpotLite GPS to protect your pet.
17. Do I have to consult a vet before activating SpotLite GPS Pet Locator?
No. Both simply attached to your dog’s collar. Follow the quick and easy steps at
www.SpotLightGPS.com.
18. Does SpotLite work for things other than dogs?
Currently, SpotLite is designed for all types of dogs. We recommend that your dog
weigh at least 10 pounds to wear SpotLite.
19. How much does the SpotLite device weight?
The SpotLite device weighs about 2 oz.
20. How much does my dog have to weigh to wear SpotLite?
The device will work for any size dog due to its compact size, but we recommend
that it be used on dogs weighing 10 pounds or more.
21. Is SpotLite sturdy?
It is!
22. What are the minimums and maximums for SafeSpot boundaries? How many SafeSpots
can I set?
SafeSpots are customizable and can be multi-layered. The minimum boundary is 100
yards. The maximum is 1,000 yards. You can set up to 10 individual SafeSpots.
Each SafeSpot can have an additional boundary for an added layer of protection.
23. Will my dog feel anything when going outside of a SafeSpot?
No. SpotLite is completely harmless to your dog. The GPS technology picks up the
signal from the device that your dog has left the SafeSpot and instantly alerts
you via your designated preference. Your dog will not feel or hear a thing.
24. Do I need a special collar for SpotLite to work?
Not at all. SpotLite’s pouch attaches directly to your dog’s current collar.
25. How long does the SpotLite battery last before it needs recharging? How long
does it take to recharge?
With typical usage, SpotLite’s battery can last up to 5 days or longer. It takes
approximately 4 hours to recharge SpotLite’s battery.
26. Once I register SpotLite, how much time goes by before the device is activated?
Assuming the battery is charged, it takes approximately 5 minutes for the device
to be fully operational.
27. Is the SpotLite tracking website compatible with my smart phone or other mobile
device?
Yes. You can track your pet online or with your smart phone or mobile phone anytime.

28. If my dog is lost will someone stay on the phone with me?
Of course. Through our partnership with AKC CAR, you gain access to their 24/7/365
call center. They can stay on the phone with you to help you locate your dog and
reassure you as you recover your dog.
29. What do I do if my locator is not functioning properly?
We offer a money-back guarantee within 30 days of purchase. Please see our Returns
& Refunds Policy for details. In addition to our 1-year limited warranty, we also
offer an extended warranty that would cover a broken or lost device.
30.How does the SpotLite anti-theft feature work?
Unfortunately we understand that there are people that steal dogs. One unique features
is the ability to alert you of the speed your dog is traveling. If you see that
your dog is moving at a speed greater than his or her normal running pace, then
it is likely your dog is traveling in a car or other motorized vehicle. Once alerted,
you can notify authorities of the situation and the dog’s location.
31.If SpotLite is in the tracking mode, will I still receive alerts?
No, if you are in the tracking mode you will not receive alerts, as you will be
able to see your pet's location on the map on the tracking dashboard.
